WISDOM TEETH

The average mouth has inadequate room for 3rd molars also known as wisdom teeth. Because of this problem, they usually are not able to erupt properly into the mouth. They will never be functional, but they can cause numerous problems.

The problems are related to the inability to keep area around the wisdom teeth healthy. This can lead to various problems including pain, infection, bleeding, periodontal disease, caries, and damage to adjacent teeth. Even in patients with adequate room for their wisdom teeth, they are very prone to decay, periodontal problems, and infection because of the difficulty in keeping them clean.

Numerous studies have shown that even in fully erupted wisdom teeth, the bacteria and periodontal condition is unhealthy. Because of these problems the normal recommendation is to have them removed prior to these problems arising. It is idea to have your wisdom teeth evaluated in the teenage years.
